Lakeland Boulevard in Wickliffe reopens following gas leak

Dominion Energy crews were able to clamp the line until more extensive repairs could be made.

WICKLIFFE, Ohio — According to police, a gas leak shut down Lakeland Boulevard between East 105th and Worden Road in Wickliffe Wednesday.

Officials tell us the incident was caused by construction crews digging in the area. An excavator working on a nearby building renovation apparently struck the 1 3/8-inch gas line.

Dominion Energy crews as well as first responders came to the scene. The gas company was able to put a clamp on the line until more extensive repairs could be made.

Local authorities released the following statement:

"The Dominion Gas crews responded quickly and brought the scene to a safe resolution. Wickliffe Fire Department crews had hose lines and fire apparatus in place to protect the gas utility crews and nearby property in case there was a natural gas explosion."
