LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain City School District CEO David Hardy, Jr. announced in a community letter Thursday that all teachers and staff who wish to remain with the high school next school year must reapply for their jobs.
The announcement comes as the high school was deemed an Empowerment School, meaning district administration has the power to place staffers in specific positions for success. The district has been under academic distress by state standards for the last five years due to a pattern of under-performance.
In Thursday's letter, Hardy said all employees who wish to remain with the high school will participate in a "selection process" in which their experience and commitment to students will be evaluated.
"Although many may feel uncomfortable, we must continue to do what is in the best interest of scholars -- the future of our community -- because nothing is more uncomfortable than leaving high school without the tools needed to be successful," Hardy wrote.
