Love Your Look: Denim jackets are back

New ways to rock this classic wardrobe staple

The classic denim jacket.

It's an iconic wardrobe piece that has been a style staple since the 1950's- and, a functional fashion item since Levi Strauss designed the very first jean jacket for engineers and miners back in the late 19th century.

So how has the denim jacket remained a style essential through the years? Through constant re-invention, of course.

WKYC's Sara Shookman headed to Rocky River's Groove Boutique to meet up with style expert and blogger Michelle (Meach) Zavodny of My Versatile Style for a look at three ways to update this classic look for this spring, summer and beyond.

Meach started with a two-tone denim jacket from Fetch & Co Boutique in Rocky River, and styled the same jacket three different ways to prove you that only one denim jacket in your closet can go a long way.

Our first model Kristi wore the jacket over a loose floral dress from Groove Boutique. Meach told Sara she picked this particular dress for its floral pattern and breezy, flattering fit. To top it off, two on-trend accessories - a straw bag and neutral block heels.

Second model Shaylynn rocked the denim-on-denim trend, pairing the Fetch & Co jacket with a denim skirt. Meach told Sara that they key to this tricky trend, is actually all about not matching your denim pieces perfectly. Meach added on-trend yellow slides from Apricot Lane at Strongsville Mall and a complimentary (and budget-friendly) striped tee from Old Navy!

Our final look was all about elevated comfort. Model Janet paired the jacket with linen jogger pants from Apricot Lane and a black Old Navy tee - and though all three items are casual on their own, together, they make for a polished, comfortable look perfect for just about any occasion.

Meach says if you're in the market for a new denim jacket, look for a medium wash, and a lighter-weight (and ideally, stretch) fabric to keep it current and comfortable. And she says, don't count out boutiques. Many people assume boutiques are expensive, but they're often surprisingly affordable. This denim jacket rings up just under 40 bucks!
