SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Magoffin County Sheriff's Office said 22-month-old Kenneth Howard was found safe.

Howard had been missing since Sunday evening from his rural Kentucky home.

The toddler was located 1700 to 1800 feet from the family's home just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15. Trooper William Petry of KSP said he was found when a searcher heard his cries.

Howard was treated for dehydration but is in good condition, according to Captain Carter Conley of the Magoffin County Rescue Squad.

Magoffin County Search and Rescue Chief Carter Conley said crews were using dogs, ATVs, helicopters and drones with thermal cameras to search the rugged terrain.

Petry said the question is how this incident happened, saying police will possibly have a press conference Thursday.
