Diocese of Cleveland holds prayer service for peace in Ukraine

The prayer service was led by Bishop Edward Malesic.

CLEVELAND — As the rest of the world continue to watch the aftermath of Russia's invasion into the Ukraine, the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is offering its support through prayer.

On Sunday, Bishop Edward Malesic led a prayer service for peace in Ukraine at 3 p.m. from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Hundreds of parishioners sat in the pews as both the bishop and leaders from the local Ukrainian Catholic community spoke of the country's resolve in the face of struggle.

"We encourage everyone to come together to pray for the end of this invasion and for lasting peace in Ukraine," said the Diocese of Cleveland in a statement. "We pray also for all those who have been forced to flee their homes, for the children and the elderly, for those who have stayed behind to defend their country, for those who have lost their lives and for all those who love them."
