New sports app picks Cleveland for launch

Pickup is an app that turns sports headlines into a unique competitive social game

CLEVELAND — The newest mobile app that aims to take the sports world by storm is picking Cleveland as the very first place to launch.

It's called Pickup.

Fans may have seen the green banners up around Progressive Field recently, heralding its arrival in town, and it mixes sports news and a social game in a unique way.

Pickup co-founder and CEO Dan Healy joins Jim Donovan on Donovan Live tonight to explain how it works, and why Cleveland was chosen as the first city to go live. Healy, an Ohio State grad, is taking his experience building an selling companies and setting his sights on the sports world to engage fans like never before.

The Pickup app is currently only available for Apple iOS devices. Now through July 7, every user who downloads the app is registered to win two free tickets to the MLB Home Run Derby in Cleveland on July 8.
