3News' Russ Mitchell to interview Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Friday

The two will discuss Ohio's ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic.

CLEVELAND — He's earned national recognition for his response to the coronavirus pandemic, and on Friday, he will speak with one of Cleveland's best reporters.

3News anchor Russ Mitchell will interview Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine at 1 p.m. to discuss the state's ongoing response to the coronavirus crisis. The remote sit-down will air later today on our newscasts, and the entire discussion will be posted on our digital platforms.

DeWine has drawn praise for his early and proactive response to the virus, and currently has an 85% approval rating among Ohioans. However, he has also drawn criticism on both sides as of late: Conservatives in the General Assembly are accusing his administration of overreach, while others are concerned he is moving too quickly by announcing several establishments (such as gyms and day cares) will be allowed to reopen on a limited basis by the end of the month.

This is not the first time Russ has spoken one-on-one with a high-profile member of the DeWine administration: Back in March, he interviewed Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton about what to expect from the virus.
