More than 100 local elected officials endorse Nan Whaley for Governor

These endorsements come from every corner of the state and represent a diverse group of elected officials at every level of government.

DAYTON, Ohio — Mayor of Dayton Nan Whaley has a strong backing to unseat Republican Governor Mike DeWine in next year's race for Ohio governor.

According to the press release, "local officials across the Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Northeast Ohio region joined more than 100 local elected leaders across the state of Ohio to announce their endorsement of Nan Whaley’s campaign for Governor.

These endorsements come from every corner of the state and represent a diverse group of elected officials at every level of government. These new 100-plus endorsements follow endorsements from a majority of the Democratic state legislators in Ohio, the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4), the Industrial Division of the Communications Workers of America (IUE-CWA), 314 Action Fund, and Emily’s List."

Among the endorsements are State Rep. Tavia Galonski, City of Massillon Clerk of Courts Johnnie Maier, Mayor of Lakewood Meghan George and Cleveland City Councilmember Kerry McCormack.

Emily’s List is the national progressive organization that promotes women for public office. The endorsement is the group's first of a gubernatorial challenger in the 2022 cycle.

“This diverse group of endorsers from every corner of the state shows that Ohioans are ready for a change,” said Mayor Whaley. “Momentum is building for our campaign because Ohioans know it’s time for something new. I’m honored to have the support of so many local leaders — it’s time communities large and small had a partner in the Governor’s Office and I promise to be that partner.”

On the Republican ticket, DeWine faces potential primary challenges from former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, current Rep. Warren Davidson and farmer Joe Blystone.
