Ohio Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown called for an end to anti-semitism and for the American people to come together at the 75th anniversary of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Cleveland's region.
"This country was founded on the basis that people are created equal and that discrimination against anybody is wrong," said Senator Portman
Senator Brown added, "all elected officials have a responsibility to call out anti-semitism from the president on down."
Their comments come after deadly shootings at synagogues in Pittsburgh and San Diego as well as attacks on other religions at places of worship. Both senators say anti-semitism is on the rise. They say federal dollars are started to get used to provide better security at places of worship.
The two senators also chimed in on the possibility Robert Mueller testifies before Congress, saying they would be "glad" if he did.
"I expect him to be honest as he's been all along," Senator Brown said at the 75th anniversary of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Cleveland's region.
Senator Portman added, "I think people need to hear it...and decide for themselves."
On Sunday, a House Judiciary Committee member named Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I) said Mueller had agreed to testify to Congress to a "tentative date" of May 15th.
Later that day, the congressman tweeted, "Just to clarify: we are aiming to bring Mueller in on the 15th, but nothing has been agreed to yet. That’s the date the Committee has proposed, and we hope the Special Counsel will agree to it. Sorry for the confusion."
The president tweeted saying Mueller should not testify.
