Democrat Shontel Brown announces her campaign has raised $680,000 for 11th district congressional seat

Brown has been endorsed by the United Auto Workers and is one of several democrats in the race for the seat.

CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Chair Shontel Brown has raised $680,000 in the race to fill the 11th congressional district seat vacated by Marcia Fudge, the campaign announced Monday.

Brown entered the race in late December 2020. Her campaign says that, of the donations it has received, $640,000 has come in the first quarter of 2021.

Brown's campaign says that 55% of donations it has received so far have come from donors who live in Northeast Ohio.

"I am grateful to the thousands of people who have contributed to our campaign," Brown said in a press release. "I've always focused on making a difference in people's lives, which is why I passed the law that classified racism as a public health crisis and got funding for Wi-Fi hotspots during COVID so kids could have school online. I am running for Congress to lead Northeast Ohio's economic recovery - and to partner with the Biden Administration to get it done."

Brown also helped to get a countywide 911 text message system in place in Cuyahoga County. She has also worked on protecting residents from lead exposure and poisoning.
