Scam Squad: Beware of Holiday Job Scams

While you may be looking to make extra holiday cash, scammers are trying to get your money.

The Cuyahoga County Scam Squad is warning of too good to be true holiday jobs. Larissa Bungo, Assistant regional director of the Federal Trade Commission said there are red flags you should watch out for.
First be weary of employers who ask you to pay upfront fees. Whether its for equipment, supplies or training paying to work should be a red flag.
Secondly, watch out for the phantom HR Person. If someone contacts you from human resources, but won't meet you in person it's likely a scam.
You should also check out their email address to see if they are using a legit company email or a Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo account.
Lastly do not accept any kind of payment before you do work. Scammers use fraudulent checks to try and get your money.
