Stark County man charged with attempted murder for shooting at police officers, neighboring homes

One officer was apparently treated for non-life-threatening injuries that did not involve a firearm.

LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Police in Stark County arrested a man Saturday morning who allegedly fired multiple gunshots during a standoff.

According to Louisville Police Chief Andrew Turowski, officers were called to the 1500 block of Opal St. just before 11 a.m. for a "suicidal" man firing a gun. Once authorities arrived, the suspect is accused of shooting off multiple rounds in several different directions. While no one was shot, multiple homes and police cars were hit by bullets and the area had to be evacuated.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Adam Dewalt, eventually surrendered to police and was taken to the Stark County Jail. He faces charges of three counts of attempted aggravated murder and one count each of improperly discharging a firearm, vandalism, inducing panic, and domestic violence.

Officials from Canton, Alliance, and the Stark County Sheriff's Office were called in to assist. One officer was apparently treated for non-life-threatening injuries that did not involve a firearm.
