Mark Naymik reports: Subpoena seeks information on BioEnterprise’s work related to Global Center for Health Innovation

BioEnterprise announced earlier this month it would no longer manage Global Center, once known as MedMart.

CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Convention Facilities Development Corporation, which oversees the Global Center for Health Innovation and the Huntington Convention Center, received a subpoena last month seeking records related to the work of BioEnterprise, the nonprofit company tapped two years ago to find tenants for the Global Center, once known as the MedMart.

The Cuyahoga County Grand Jury subpoena asked for information related to reimbursements BioEnterprise sought from CCCFDC, sources told 3News. A copy of the subpoena was released by CCFDC after this story was posted and can be read below:

Subpoena is seeking, among other things, travel records and expenses related to the 2018 Venture Capital Association seminar in Pittsburgh that were submitted to the CCCFD for reimbursement. The subpoena asks for records "justifying" the expenses as work related to the Global Center. It names at least one current employee of BioEnterprise.

BioEnterprise said in a written statement after this story posted that it received a subpoena and that the company is cooperating. BioEnterprise also said its decision to end it relationship with the CCFDC is not related to the investigation.

Earlier this month, Aram Nerpouni, BioEnterprise’s president and CEO, said in a statement that BioEnterprise will not continue to manage the Global Center after its current agreement with CCCFDC expires at the end of the year. BioEnterprise said it will move its staff of 20 from the center at the end of the year.
