4 children, 1 adult hurt in Ohio crash

The SUV struck a utility pole in the front yard of a residence, and the truck came to rest near pine trees in the driveway of the residence.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Five people, including four children, were injured in a crash at Ohio 13 and Chesrown Road after an SUV ran a stop sign Sunday afternoon, the Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.

Trooper Jason Beck with the Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said the 2014 Chevy SUV was traveling east on Chesrown Road, and a 1999 Ford F250 pickup truck hauling a camper was traveling south on 13.

"The SUV failed to yield to the stop sign," Beck said. "(The SUV) stopped and then pulled into (the truck's) lane of travel, which caused the impact, and both vehicles slid off the right side of the roadway."

The SUV struck a utility pole in the front yard of a residence, and the truck came to rest near pine trees in the driveway of the residence.

The driver of the SUV, Tonya Haubiel, 39, of Shelby, and four children in the SUV were taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. All five had non-life-threatening injuries, Beck said.

The driver of the truck, Michael Ward, 62, of Alexandria, Ohio, was not injured.

Beck said Haubiel will be cited with failure to yield in the crash, which was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Franklin Township Fire Department assisted the patrol at the scene of the crash, which temporarily closed the south lane of Ohio 13 near the intersection.
