UPDATE | Lakewood bar ordered to stop serving drink with controversial garnish pending testing

Yuzu says they will continue to make 'Even Can't Literally' but will automatically donate the tampon

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — On Friday, we told you about a controversial drink that a Lakewood bar came up with, featuring a tampon applicator as the garnish.

Now, Yuzu has been ordered by the Cuyahoga County Health Department to stop serving 'Even Can't Literally' until they can verify through testing that the drink is safe to consume.

It was this viral post by Yuzu on social media last week that began to stir up attention and opinions.

"It first started out as a joke, just something simple about three months ago. But it kept going and going and then we turned it into a drink," bartender Sarah Krueger told us. "When we decided to do this, we said that we need to donate $1 to a woman's shelter for every drink purchased."

All of the money raised from the purchase of 'Even Can't Literally' is benefiting the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center.

The post also raised the attention of the Cuyahoga County Health Department, who contacted Yuzu on Friday to ensure the safety of those who sample the drink. The department told Krueger that as long as the applicator is unscented, then it was safe.

However on Monday, the department came into Yuzu to inform the bar that they could no longer make the drink until tests showed it is safe.

"I told the department of health agent that we will continue making the drink, but now we will automatically donate the tampon instead of giving the customer the choice," Krueger told us in an email.
