The most heartwarming local stories of 2018

They're the stories that take us into the new year with an appreciation for love, live, and hope in the place we call home.

From hometown heroes, to those that taught us that love can be found anywhere, 2018 was no stranger to the stories that made us think, and feel.

Below are some of the most heartfelt stories we covered this year:

1. Tiny dancer Tessa Puma:  At six, a flesh-eating bacteria took part of her leg. But by seven, she was back on her feet, and better than ever. Dancing is her passion, so after being fitted with a prosthetic leg, she returned to competition with a vengeance.

2. Mom puts cleats on the other team: Players stood taller and prouder when one woman wanted an equal playing field for the competition. She's a proud high school mom who noticed some of the opposing players didn't have cleats. So, she posted on Facebook asking for help ... and she got it.

3. Granddaughter marries in grandpa's hospital room: When Lindsay Miller's grandpa had weeks to live, she brought the wedding to the hospital to show that love doesn't wait.

4. Couple with cerebral palsy ties the knot: We found love without limits in Annmarie Gilmore and Tyrone Peacock. They both have cerebral palsy, but proved to us that nothing would hold them back from spending the rest of their lives together.

5. Bigger than the game: LeBron James showed us that when he returned home to open up the  school for at-risk students in hopes of creating meaningful change.
