This year, our area saw its fair share of crime stories. Some were bizarre and some left us with broken hearts.

8 arrested, 140 pounds of meth seized in largest bust in Ohio history

Eight people (including five Northeast Ohioans) face federal charges following what is believed to be the largest methamphetamine bust in the history of the state of Ohio.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, all individuals have been accused of conspiracy to manufacture and possess with intent to distribute. They allegedly intended to create a meth and cocaine trafficking supply chain to Northeast Ohio from Mexico.

"Member of this group traveled from Ohio to Mexico to set up a drug supply chain and then actively plotted a murder when they believed someone robbed from them," U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said. "This case demonstrates that the threat posed by Mexican criminal organizations to our region is very real."

Twinsburg residents arrested for hiding evidence in man's death

Police on Sept. 24 announced the arrests of two people for their alleged involvement in a man's death in August.

Michael J. Roth, 30, and Samantha S. Giatron, 30, face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the death of 29-year-old David Suster.

Suster was found dead inside a Darrow Road home Aug. 18.

Police say Roth called dispatch to report Suster's death. When officers arrived at the home, they determined that its occupants had made an effort to hide evidence related to how Suster died.

Roth is also accused of providing police with misleading information and removing discriminating evidence from the home to hide in his business, Michael's Cafe, which is located across the street from the home.

Dad shot, killed walking with his kids at Chuck E. Cheese

A man has died after a shooting at a restaurant parking lot near the South Carolina coast.

Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis told news outlets the shooting happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Nov. 26.

Another officer said the victim was a 32-year-old man whose name was not released at the time.

Lieutenant Command Duty Officer Patrick McLaughlin said the man was walking from a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant to his car with his children when he was shot. No other injuries were reported.

Multiple arrests during Christmas in July brawls at Put-In-Bay ferry

Christmas in July festivities turned wild in Put-in-Bay as party-goers turned on each other in several fights.

Witnesses say they counted at least 11 people being taken into police custody. Catawba Island Police Chief John Gangway confirmed three people arrested and charged to the Port Clinton News Herald's Craig Shoup.

Regular visitors to the summer hot spot took to social media to express their shock at the turmoil that unfolded. They said Put-in-Bay, while a hot spot for young, is normally restrained. Things got out of hand that weekend, however.

Richland County parents face felony charges after baby left unattended in filthy car seat at bar

A Bellville couple faced felony child endangering charges after their 9-month-old daughter was left unattended in a booth in a Mansfield bar on Aug. 28. The child was strapped in a car seat overflowing with urine, feces and maggots, according to reports.

The child weighed only 16 pounds, according to a record from the Richland County Clerk of Courts Office.

Zachariah Remaley, 23, and his wife Brittany Remaley, 24, of Bellville, were arrested in Mansfield on Aug. 30 by Richland County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals, respectively.
