Happy New Year, everyone!

What a crazy year in sports we've had. The Cavaliers had another roller-coaster ride to the NBA Finals, only to then have a soap opera-ish offseason. The Indians set a league-record for most consecutive wins in the regular season, only to see another postseason run cut short.

And the Browns....well, you know.

So here were the sports stories that interested you the most in 2017 here on WKYC.com:

5. Cleveland Cavaliers shut down haters in Game 3 hype video

This is one of my favorite things I saw all year. Because I can't stand national sports media carnival barkers who have fun at Cleveland's expense. As the Cavs were preparing to come back home and host Golden State in Game 3 of the Finals, the team put together this tremendous video.

4. J.R. Smith holds youngest daughter for first time

The 2016-17 season was a difficult one for the Cavs guard. He missed much of the regular season because of a thumb injury. But he and his wife were also going through the premature birth of their daughter, Dakota.

Dakota was born five months early and weighed just a pound at birth. In February, Smith posted this Instagram message that made us all smile.

Today is one of the greatest days of my life. Today I get to hold my youngest for the first time! GOD is GREAT! #DakotaStrong

By the way, Dakota is doing well and the Smith family recently announced that they are expecting a fourth child.

3. Shots Fired? Kyrie Irving appears to mock LeBron James in new Snapchat post

That soap opera thing I mentioned earlier? Yup, here it was. Less than a month after the Cavaliers lost the NBA Finals to the Warriors, Irving stunned everyone by requesting a trade. Part of the reason was apparently his desire to escape James' shadow.

So as he was returning from an overseas trip for Nike, Kyrie busted out the following on Snapchat:

Yes that was Irving singing the lyrics to Skylar Grey's chorus in the Diddy song "Coming Home," which was the unofficial theme when James came back to the Cavs in 2014.

2. See what LeBron James did moments after Cleveland Cavaliers lost Game 1 to Golden State Warriors

The Cavs dubbed this simply as 'leadership.'

Making his way to the locker room after the Wine and Gold lost Game 1 of the Finals to the Golden State Warriors 113-91, LeBron turned around and offered his team mates a simple sign of encouragement.

That simple gesture of leadership and team spirit quickly took social media by storm. The video was shared nearly 11,000 times and liked 54,000 times within four hours.

1. Tom Brady's ill mom makes it to Super Bowl LI

Super Bowl LI was memorable for so many reasons. It was the time the Super Bowl had ever gone into overtime. The Patriots staged a comeback for the ages, battling back from 28-3 down to beat the Falcons. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick won their fifth Super Bowl together.

But the story from this game (and in all of 2017 in sports) that you loved most was the fact that Tom Brady's mother Galynn made it to Houston to watch her son make history. An undisclosed ailment prevented her from witnessing Patriots action with any regularity throughout the regular season.

Feb 5, 2017; Houston, TX, USA; Tom Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen and his mom Galynn Brady hug after the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium.

She was there. And we were all touched.
