Holiday lights will light up something inside you: Leon Bibb

The shimmer of lights catches us in a magical way, bringing comfort where it is needed.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — 'Tis the season which gets to me; touching deeply my heart. Maybe it is that way with you, too. I savor this time of the year when the holiday lights are twinkling and flashing their brilliance. Cleveland's Public Square is transformed into a theater of light drawing applause from an audience. You need only to stop for a while to look. The holiday lights will light up something inside you. Even on a cold day, the lights warm me.

I think the shimmer of lights catch us all in a almost magical way. When other holiday displays are added, the world turns comfortable. Certainly I am in a special place when the holiday lights wash over me.

I grew up in Cleveland so I have long-ago childhood footprints through Public Square. My family members were mostly downtown department store shoppers in those years before the big stores decided to look for green pastures farther out. But my memories are there of shopping with Mom and Dad as we walked among the displays which announced the Christmas season was here.

But I will tell you some things don't change. There is a common thread from yesteryear to today which runs through just as surely as the lights are linked with pulsing threads running between them. I find a comfort in knowing that. So the next time you are out, take a tour through Public Square or wherever there are holiday lights. Feast your eyes on the festivity of light. You will find a warmth in them.

I hope you see the light as I do. Be merry - everyone. I wish you the happiest of holiday greetings as we all savor the scenes where the treetops glisten.
