On Dec. 19, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will play host to the 2020 CBS Sports Classic. The event will feature two matchups between four of college basketball's top programs, including a 2 p.m. ET tip between Ohio State and North Carolina, with a matchup between Kentucky and UCLA to follow.
In hosting the event, Cleveland becomes the fifth city to do so in its seven-year history, joining Chicago (2014, 2018), Brooklyn (2015), Las Vegas (2016, 2019) and New Orleans (2017). It remains unclear whether fans will be permitted to attend the event.
"Fan attendance at the 2020 CBS Sports Classic continues to be evaluated. The health and safety of fans and everyone involved in this event is a top priority, and any fan attendance policies will, at a minimum, follow the guidelines outlined in the Responsible RestartOhio plan," a release reads. "Future announcements related to fan attendance will be made at the appropriate time. Created ahead of the 2014-15 college basketball season, the CBS Sports Classic "brings together four of the nation’s historically most successful college basketball programs" on an annual basis. Altogether, Ohio State, Kentucky, UCLA and Kentucky lay claim to more than 8,200 program victories, 65 total Final Four appearances and 26 national championships, with all four programs possessing the potential to start the 2020-21 college basketball season ranked in the top 25.
