Cactus League saw its largest crowds ever in 2018

All thanks to the Chicago Cubs and Sloan Park.

Major League Baseball's regular season is in full swing, which means the days spent in the sun, sitting in the grass, taking in a Cactus League game are in the rear-view mirror ... for now anyway.

Now, when it comes to spring training, wins and losses don't mean much. Let's face it, fans are there to have fun, drink beer, crack open some peanuts and check out their team's up-and-coming prospects. Plus, the weather at the Cactus or Grapefruit league games beats most other places.

But as the numbers show, the Cactus League had a few big wins worth celebrating this season.

The 2018 Cactus League featured 24 fewer games and drew a total of 1,774,978 people to the games with an average of 7,683 per game. Despite the overall drop in attendance from 2017, the per-game increase from 7,554 was the largest in three years, according to a spokesperson.

Chicago Cubs led the pack with a total attendance of 222,023 and an average of 13,876 per game. The Arizona Diamondbacks were second with a total of 166,063 and a per-game average of 10,379.

The Cincinnati Reds had the smallest attendance numbers of any team in 2018. Fifth on the list for overall attendance, the Colorado Rockies set their single-game attendance record (13,825) on March 27.

The league also saw its five largest crowds ever in 2018, all thanks to the Chicago Cubs and Sloan Park.

The largest crowd to ever attend a Cactus League game? A crowd of 15,849 fans were in the stands at Sloan Park to see the Chicago Cubs take on the San Francisco Giants on March 13, 2018.

And when it comes to the Cactus League ballparks, Camelback Ranch in Glendale saw the biggest average attendance increase in 2018.

Guess you could say the 2018 Cactus League was a ... home run.
