University of Akron settles with Nebraska over canceled game

The university will receive a $650,000 payout

The University of Akron and University of Nebraska have settled a disagreement over payment for a cancelled football game last season.

The Sept. 1 matchup was cancelled just after kickoff because of severe weather. The contract between the universities guaranteed Akron $1.17 million for playing.

However, since the game was canceled Akron had not received any of the money until this week’s agreement. Now the university will receive at $650,000 payout.

The universities have also agreed to play again in 2025 in Nebraska with Akron receiving $1.45 million in guaranteed money for the game.

“While we were disappointed to have missed out on a contest with Nebraska this year, we are pleased that our future Zips will indeed get that chance,” UA Director of Athletics Larry Williams said in a statement.
