COLUMBUS, Ohio — E.J. Liddell scored 19 points and hauled in eight rebounds as No. 16 Ohio State defeated Penn State 61-56 Sunday afternoon.
OSU improved to 11-4 on the season and 5-2 in Big Ten play, despite shooting just under 39% overall and going the final five minutes without a basket. Zed Key added 10 points, the only Buckeye other than Liddell to reach double figures.
Seth Lundy, Penn State's leading scorer with an average of 14.1 points, missed his first game of the season. The school announced earlier in the day that he was out, but didn't give a reason.
In Lundy's absence, Sam Sessoms led the Nittany Lions (8-7, 3-4 Big Ten) with 15 points. PSU never led after falling behind 12-10 eight minutes into the game, but managed to hang around the rest of the day.
Ohio State will be back in action Tuesday night when it hosts IUPUI at Value City Arena. The matchup was a late addition to the schedule after the Buckeyes had three prior games canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
