Nick Bosa will not return to Ohio State after injury and instead focus on NFL draft

Bosa is currently rehabilitating after having surgery due to a core muscle injury.

Nick Bosa's career at Ohio State is over.

The All-America defensive lineman will not return to the team, the school confirmed in Tuesday.

Bosa is currently rehabilitating after having surgery due to a core muscle injury sustained during Ohio State's third game of the season against TCU. There was no timetable for his return.

The school said Bosa intends to withdraw from school to focus on his recovery.

“I was hopeful that Nick would be able to return to play again for us,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said in a statement. “I know this was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for Nick and his family, and I wish him well as he moves on to get himself 100 percent healthy and ready for his next chapter. I want to thank Nick for the remarkable efforts he gave for this program. He is a first-class young man who we have been honored to coach.”

This decision by Bosa, whose older brother Joey plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, will allow him to focus on the upcoming NFL draft.

Entering the season, Bosa was projected as a high first-round pick after recording 13 1/2 sacks in his first two years with Ohio State. He had four sacks in his first three games this season.

He was expected to forgo his final season of eligibility even before the injury.

The Buckeyes are 7-0 this season and ranked No. 2 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
