The final WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron will include the golfer who's won the tournament more than anyone else.

With his T-6 place finish at The Open this past weekend, Tiger Woods rose to the top 50 of the OWGR rankings, qualifying him for the Bridgestone in two weeks. Woods, who hasn't competed in a WGC event since 2014, has won the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron a record eight times.

With the 2013 Bridgestone marking his most recent career win, Woods made a charge at what would have been his 15th career major at The Open before ultimately falling short in a tournament won by Francesco Molinari. Woods shot a -5 for the event, with Molinari winning with a -8.

Nevertheless, Woods' top-six finish helped him climb from No. 71 to No. 50 in the world rankings, qualifying him for what could be one last run at a course he's dominated throughout his storied career. Having appeared at 11 events this PGA season, the 42-year-old has made nine cuts, finishing in the top-25 seven times and in the top-10 three times. His best finish of the year came at the Valspar Championship in March when he finished tied for second.

Late last year, rumors surfaced that Akron could be in danger of losing the Bridgestone Invitational. In April of this year, officials confirmed that the “Bridgestone Senior Players” championship will replace the WGC event in Akron beginning in 2019.

After hosting the "World Series of Golf" from 1976-1998, Firestone began hosting the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 1999 -- with the first three editions of the event being won by Woods.

As it turns out, he'll now have an opportunity to win the last one as well.

The 2018 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will run from Aug. 2-5.
