St. Edward senior defensive back and receiver Michael Dowell is the Channel 3 "Game Changer" for week 12 of the high school football season.

Dowell is verbally committed to continue his football career at Michigan State University, where he will join a couple of familiar faces beginning next season.

Dowell's twin older brothers, Andrew and David, start on defense for the Spartans. David, a redshirt sophomore safety, is tied for second in the Big Ten with four interceptions, including two last weekend against Penn State.

Following in the footsteps of two star athletes would not be easy for most, but the youngest Dowell has remained focused on achieving his own goals during his high school career.

"People always told me I have big shoes to fill and stuff like that," Michael said. "Well, my response to them is, 'I know. I got big feet.' I know I can play ball, too.

"I don't really worry about what (my brothers) are doing. I worry about what I'm doing and be the best Michael that I can be."

Mentor overcame an early 10-point deficit to shock St. Edward, 21-13, and advance to the Region 1 final. Elijah McDougall, Logan Shea and Chris Edmond scored touchdowns for the Cardinals, who will battle St. Ignatius in a week 2 rematch next Friday.

In D-VI regional semifinal action, Kirtland held off Mogadore in a thriller, 34-28. The Hornets are set to take on Rootstown in the regional championship.
