Norton vs. Ravenna to be featured as WKYC.com's next HS Football Game of the Week

It's the second time this year we have featured a game in Portage County.

The voters have spoken, and WKYC.com will be headed south this Friday night to see the Ravenna Ravens host the Norton Panthers in our latest High School Football Game of the Week.

The Portage Trail Conference matchup was the overwhelming winner in our weekly poll, taking home 66 percent of the vote. It's the second time this year we have featured a game in Portage County, with Aurora taking down Tallmadge back in Week 4.

Both teams enter with 5-1 records and real hopes of making the D-III playoffs, something longtime Ravenna coach Jim Lunardi has not done since 2012 despite four out of five winning seasons. The Ravens beat the Panthers 28-3 last year and finished 6-4.

Meanwhile, after winning just nine games in the last five seasons, Norton has undergone a renaissance under first year head coach Kevin Pollock. The program has not made the postseason in over two decades, but could take over first place in the PTC Metro Division with a victory this week.

Live coverage of the contest will begin Friday at 6:55 p.m. on WKYC.com, the WKYC app, and the WKYC Facebook page, with Dave "Dino" DeNatale and a still-to-be-determined guest calling the action live via audio stream. Additionally, video highlights will be featured on that night's 11 o'clock news.
