Rivalry sparks increased security at Vermilion vs. Firelands high school football game

Police will be searching all bags entering the stadium.

VERMILION, Ohio -- Football fans are going to encounter increased security at Vermilion High School on Friday night as the varsity team battles Firelands.

“Because of the size of the rivalry and increased attendance, the Vermilion Police Department will have an increased presence and will be checking all bags of attendees as they enter the stadium,” school officials said.

The following guidelines have also been issued:

- Do not bring a purse, bag, backpack, etc. if you don’t absolutely have to.

- If possible, any bags should be clear.

- Arrive early (gates open at 5:30 p.m.) to avoid the long lines.

- Pre-purchase your tickets in the VHS office or online at https://gofan.co/app/school/OH2464

Police will be at each of the four entry points of the school’s stadium.

“Another point of emphasis will be on patrons exiting the stadium before halftime. Any individual that leaves will need to get a stamp as they leave or show their ticket stub upon re-entry.
