Garfield Heights linebacker Donald Willis picks University of Minnesota

Willis led the Bulldogs with 112 tackles in 2018

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Early signing day saw area athletes commit to playing all over the country.

That includes Garfield Heights’s Donald Willis who signed his letter of intent to play 700 miles away for the University of Minnesota.

The three-star linebacker had offers from several division one schools but said the coach staff at Minnesota is what brought him to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

“I loved my official visit and the coaches. Coach (Joseph) Rossi and coach (PJ) Fleck showed me a good time. I had a good time with all the players. They have a very good team,” said Willis.

Willis put up monster numbers for the 11-1 Bulldogs this year with 112 tackles, 29 of them coming behind the line of scrimmage.

There were six players from Ohio on the Golden Gophers’ roster last season.
