Halfway through the high school football season, we have a pretty good idea of who the contenders and pretenders are throughout Northeast Ohio. At 4-1, Both of these teams are positioning themselves as contenders, but with their early wins coming mostly against weak competition, a win this week would go a long way.

Coming off back-to-back 1-9 campaigns, the Badgers' only blemish thus far has been at the hands of unbeaten Garrettsville Garfield. School Principal Michael J. King credits the coaching staff and the players (including leading rusher Ryan Pennypacker) with putting the time and work in not just on the field, but through leadership as well.

At Lutheran West, the Longhorns are trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Their only loss so far has come at the hands of rival Lutheran East, and coach Frank Petroff hopes to ride the legs of Jonathon Bradley to another victory in their first year in the Chagrin Valley Conference.

Dave "Dino" DeNatale and Mark "Munch" Bishop will now be on the call this Friday at 6:50 p.m. for a live audio broadcast on WKYC.com, the 3News app, and the 3News Facebook and YouTube pages. In addition, video highlights will be shown that evening on 3News' What's Next at 11 p.m.
