John's Take: Rams trade could help Browns

No question, Jeff Fisher and the Rams did this because they believe they can get a franchise quarterback at number one. That means the Browns no longer have first choice of quarterbacks, which may not be a bad thing.

The Rams are obviously not giving any hints on whether they'll take Carson Wentz or Jared Goff. I hope they take Wentz, because I want Goff here in Cleveland.

I give Goff the edge because he played in a more NFL-like conference against Pac 12 competition. But if the Browns like both of them and look at them as equals when it comes to talent, than this trade doesn't affect the Browns. They'll just take the other guy.

The pressure is all on the Rams to get this right because they mortgaged their future on this one, number one pick. The team that should be nervous is the 49ers. They need a quarterback and they seem to want the local kid Goff out of Cal.

So maybe the Browns number two pick just got more valuable. A team like the 49ers could get more desperate and offer more to move up.

The Moneyball way says you trade for a bundle of picks and worry about quarterback later. So maybe the Rams taking the decision out of the Browns hands, is a good thing.
