NBA rumors: OG Anunoby could be headed to the New York Knicks | Locked On NBA

The Knicks might be the best landing spot for Anunoby at the NBA trade deadline.

NEW YORK — The NBA appears to be gearing up for a bidding war for Raptors forward OG Anunoby, but the team most well-suited to trade for him may indeed be the New York Knicks.

This is in part because the Knicks have a competitive team on which Anunoby would fit well, and partially because New York has a trove of draft assets that would allow them to trade for Anunoby without fully depleting their stockpile, said host Matt Moore on Tuesday’s Locked On NBA podcast. By trading a few of their heavily protected future first-round picks, many of which were acquired during the 2022 draft, the Knicks could create a win-win with Toronto.

“Now you’re able to say you gave up four or five picks for ANunoby when in reality, you’re only going to give up, like, two. That I think helps grease the wheels on this,” Moore said. “The question is going to be whether or not the Raptors are going to demand Immanuel Quickley, if they’re going to demand Obi Toppin, if they’re going to want Julius Randle or have Julius Randle shipped to a third team. The asking price for OG is astronomical.”

It’s well-reported around the NBA that part of why Anunoby would be intrigued to leave Toronto is that he would have a chance to expand his offensive game, and the Knicks could provide him that chance.

“The Knicks make the most sense (because) OG can play the role that he wants, because he wants a bigger role, on a main stage in New York, next to Jalen Brunson, on a premiere team,” Moore said.

Still, as more suitors pop up in the rumor mill and the price potentially increases, Locked On NBA host David Ramil wondered if the rumored deals are getting excessive.

“It just seems a little excessive for a player who, he’s not an All-Star level player, (and) the trade market seemed like it had gone back to normal after Minnesota skewed things with Rudy Gobert, and now all of a sudden we’re back to square one again where we’re sending these players that are fine, good players for an incredible haul,” Ramil said.

The Knicks are always on the lookout for their next star-caliber talent, and this NBA trade deadline, it could be Anunoby.
