Mentor and St. Edward capture district basketball titles

The Cards rallied to down Brush while the Eagles made quick work of Rhodes

CLEVELAND — District boys basketball champions were crowned on Saturday night in Divisions I and II.

Mentor and St. Edward are once again on the short list of Northeast Ohio teams that have advanced to regionals.

Mentor defeated Brush, 71-69, at Euclid High School. Luke Chiccone paced the Cards with 22 points. Future Pitt Panther John Hugley led the Arcs with 35 points and 15 rebounds.

St. Edward handled Rhodes, 59-39, at Lakewood High School. Devontae Blanton scored a game-high 22 points for the Eagles while Davidson commit Grant Huffman chipped in 17 points.

Mentor will meet Medina in the Division I regional semifinal on Wednesday, March 11 at the Wolstein Center.

St. Edward will battle Lorain in the Division I regional semifinal on Wednesday, March 11 at James A. Rhodes Arena.
