4 Cleveland Indians among 50 MLB players to provide 4 million meals aimed at preventing childhood hunger

The initiative is a part of the Home Plate Project, a partnership between Major League Baseball, Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids Foundation and Big League Impact.

In an effort to prevent childhood hunger during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, 50 MLB players have teamed up to raise nearly $1 million to provide more than 4 million meals.

The list of 50 players participating includes 4 Cleveland Indians -- the most of any of MLB's 30 teams. The four Indians participating include pitchers Brad Hand, Shane Bieber and Nick Wittgren, as well as outfielder/first baseman Jake Bauers. The four Indians players provided their donation earlier this month when they teamed with team partners Meijer and Dunkin' to donate 160,000 meals to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

The players made the donations through the Home Plate Project, which is an initiative between Major League Baseball, country music artist Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation, and Big League Impact. The Home Plate Project was founded by St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and is led by Wainwright and Texas Rangers pitcher Kyle Gibson, with their network of players and partners raising $937,100 for the effort.
