The Cleveland Guardians highlighted each of their journies to their selections this season below.

He is on pace for 99 extra base hits, which would be the second-most in club history to Albert Belle’s 103 in 1995. The perennial MVP candidate signed a seven-year contract with the club in April and is under team control until 2028.

Giménez, 23, is having a breakout season, batting .299 (70-for-234) in 2022 with 11 2B, 2 3B, 9 homers and 40 RBI in 72 games (.354/.479/.833). He leads all A.L. second baseman in bWAR (3.1), ranks second to José Altuve (.906) in OPS and is third in RBI and Defensive Runs Saved (5). He entered play today ninth in the A.L. in batting average (.300) and second in average with runners in scoring position (.388). Since May 25th, he has batted at a .310 (39-for-126) clip over his last 37 games. He is the first Cleveland second baseman selected to the All-Star Game since Jason Kipnis (2015).

Clase, 24, currently leads the American League in saves (19-for-21) and owns the seventh-lowest qualifying relief ERA in the American League to date (33 games, 35.1IP, 23H, 6ER, 6BB, 39SO). He has limited batters to a .178 average against and has yielded just 1 run allowed over his last 21.0 innings (21-G) since May 20. His 20.0-inning scoreless streak (5/20-7/3) is the longest by a Cleveland pitcher and third-longest by an A.L. reliever in 2022. Acquired from Texas in December 2019 for Corey Kluber, he leads all MLB relievers in ERA (1.37) over the last two seasons. The A.L. Reliever of the Month for June owns a 0.59 ERA over his last 31 outings (30.2IP, 17H, 2ER, 4BB, 35K). On April 2nd, Emmanuel agreed to five-year contract thru the 2026 season with club options for 2027 and 2028. Prior to Clase, Brad Hand (2019) was the last Cleveland reliever to earn ASG honors and Chris Perez was the last right-handed RP to earn midseason accolades (2012).

The 2022 MLB All Star Game will take place at Dodger Stadium this year on July 19.
