Cleveland Guardians announce 'Guards Gaming' with tournament organizer Rival

Guards Gaming will feature one on one competition in the popular sports gaming titles including MLB The Show 23, NBA 2k23, Madden and more.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians became the first team to partner with the gaming tournament organizer Rival as part of the launch of Guards Gaming.

Guards Gaming will feature one on one competition in the popular sports gaming titles including MLB The Show 23, NBA 2k23, Madden and more. Players will compete for Guardians memorabilia, tickets as well as other prizes.

The first tournament to be held under the Guards Gaming partnership will take place on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. The cross-platform tournament (PlayStation and Xbox) will feature MLB The Show 23 with the winner taking home an autographed baseball from a current Cleveland Guardians player.

Additional tournaments will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. - Madden (PlayStation & Xbox tournaments)
  • Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m. - NBA 2K (PlayStation & Xbox tournaments)
  • Thursday May 25 at 7 p.m. - MLB The Show 23 (cross-platform tournament)

"We are thrilled to welcome our first MLB team to the Rival platform," said Rival CMO Dan Parise. "The launch of Guards Gaming creates a new and innovative way the club can engage with their fans and partners."

According to Rival, a point system will be assigned to each player which will contribute to the organizations leaderboard. Points are awarded for wins, losses and participation.
