CLEVELAND — (AP) Amed Rosario's bases-loaded single with two outs in the 10th inning gave the Cleveland Indians a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Rosario drove in Cleveland's first run with a sixth-inning double. In the 10th, he singled to right on a 1-1 pitch from Keegan Thompson, giving the Tribe (20-14) a sweep of the two-game series.
Chicago (17-19) threatened in every inning except the eighth but finished 1 for 15 with runners in scoring position and stranded 15 baserunners. Joc Pederson drove in the Cubs' only run with his own double in the sixth.
Cleveland's bullpen worked out of trouble through much of the late innings: Emmanuel Clase allowed a runner to get to third in the ninth after a wild pitch and a defensive miscue by shortstop Andrés Giménez, and in the 10th James Karinchack had men on first and second before retiring the next three. René Rivera then bunted Josh Naylor and Jordan Luplow into scoring position in the bottom half of the frame, and two batters later, Rosario sent the matinee crowd home happy.
The Indians have now won 12 of their last 15, and trail the Chicago White Sox by only a half-game in the American League Central division. A west coast road trip begins Thursday night when Zach Plesac (2-3, 3.83 ERA) takes the mound against the Seattle Mariners' Chris Flexen (3-1, 3.78).
