The Indians and their fans are holding their collective breath after right-hander Carlos Carrasco was forced to leave his start Saturday after being hit on the arm by a line drive.

A ball off the bat of Minnesota Twins' leadoff hitter Joe Mauer struck Carrasco on his pitching arm. First baseman Edwin Encarnacion was able to field the ball and retire Mauer, but Carrasco was in visible pain, and immediately left the game with one out in the second inning.

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (59) is treated after being hit by a batted ball during the second inning against the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field.

Tribe manager Terry Francona confirmed after the game Carrasco suffered a "right forearm contusion" and was taken to the hospital for X-Rays and further scans. He believes the team should know more by Saturday night.

Carrasco had not been pitching well prior to the injury, having given up four runs on four hits in the first inning. He was relieved by lefty Oliver Perez on the wrong end of a 4-2 deficit and ended up the losing pitcher in the 9-3 loss.
