Cleveland Indians' spring training opener canceled by rain

They will now open Cactus League play Sunday against the Kansas City Royals.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Sadly, Cleveland fans will have to wait one more day to see real baseball.

Saturday's spring training opener between the Indians and the Cincinnati Reds has been canceled due to rain in Goodyear, Arizona. As the two Ohio teams share the facility, they normally begin Cactus League play against each other, but the game will not be rescheduled as it is merely an exhibition contest.

Instead, the Tribe will play its first game Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. against the Kansas City Royals in Surprise, about 13 miles to the north. Jefry Rodriguez was supposed to be today's starting pitcher, but it is unknown if that will still be the case tomorrow.

The Indians are scheduled to play 34 spring training games (including two in Houston) before opening the regular season on Mar. 26 against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field.
