Recap: Cleveland Indians top Los Angeles Angels in split squad action

The Cleveland Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 in Spring Training action at Goodyear Ballpark on Wednesday night.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- With the 2019 regular season just eight days away, the Cleveland Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 in split-squad Spring Training action at Goodyear Ballpark.

Starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco got the win for the Tribe, pitching 5.2 innings, surrendering six hits and two runs while recording eight strikeouts. The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a 2-run Jordan Luplow home run and a Max Moroff RBI double and never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the game.

What follows is a running recap of Wednesday's split-squad action.

End of game

Indians 4, Angels 2: Michael Peoples picks up the save, forcing Roberto Baldoquin into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

End of eighth

Indians 4, Angels 2: Indians (Haase, Cantu and Wilson) go down in order as we head to the ninth.

Middle of eighth

Indians 4, Angels 2: Angels down to their final three outs after Adam Cimber comes in to get the final two outs of a 1-2-3 inning.

End of seventh

Indians 4, Angels 2: Indians get two on with a Tyler Krieger double and Steven Kwan walk, but Hanley Ramirez grounds into a double play to end the inning.

Middle of seventh

Indians 4, Angels 2: Neil Ramirez retires two before Dan Otero comes in to complete the 1-2-3 inning.

End of sixth

Indians 4, Angels 2: Indians add to their lead when a Jordan Luplow single knocks in Ulysses Cantu, who was pitch running for Carlos Santana following a double.

Middle of sixth

Indians 3, Angels 2: Carrasco done for the day after 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts. Neil Ramirez comes on in relief to complete the 1-2-3 inning.

End of fifth

Indians 3, Angels 2: Indians fail to add to their lead, with Steven Kwan, Hanley Ramirez and Kevin Plawecki combining for another 1-2-3 inning.

Middle of fifth

Indians 3, Angels 2: Carrasco bounces back to strike out Peter Bourjos and Justin our, before negating a Kevan Smith strikeout by grounding out Taylor Ward.

End of fourth

Indians 3, Angels 2: Indians make contact, but go down in order as we move on to the fifth.

Middle of fourth

Indians 3, Angels 2: A Kevan Smith lead off single jump starts the Angels' first rally of the evening with a Brennon Lund two-out triple driving in two, cutting Cleveland's lead to one run in the process.

End of third

Indians 3, Angels 0: The Indians record a 1-2-3 inning of their own, with Carlos Santana and Jordan Luplow each grounding out before a Trayce Thompson fly out.

Middle of third

Indians 3, Angels 0: Three up, three down as Carrasco sandwiches a pair of strikeouts around a Peter Bourjos groundout.

End of second

Indians 3, Angels 0: Tyler Krieger records a leadoff single but Steven Kwan, Hanley Ramirez and Kevin Plawecki go down in order to end the inning.

Middle of second

Indians 3, Angels 0: Carrasco surrenders an infield hit to Cesar Puello, but that's all the damage done as he finishes the inning with just four batters faced.

End of first

Indians 3, Angels 0: Kevin Plawecki doubles and Jordan Luplow homers to left center to give the Indians an early 2-0 lead. Max Moroff then adds another run with a double of his own, knocking in Trayce Thompson.

Middle of first

Indians 0, Angels 0: Carrasco hits the first batter he sees and allows a single to Justin Bours, but escapes the inning unscathed when Taylor Ward grounds out to third with two on and two out.
