As it turns out, Joe Smith's second run in Cleveland will be a short one.

According to's Brian McTaggart, the Houston Astros have agreed to a free agent contract with the now once again former Indians reliever.

Cleveland had acquired Smith from the Toronto Blue Jays at this past seasons' trade deadline in an attempt to bolster its bullpen depth. In 21 appearances for the Indians, Smith posted a 3.44 earned run average to go along with 20 strikeouts.

The Cincinnati native and Wright State product had previously pitched for the Indians from 2009-2013. In 2014, he signed a free agent deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and played for the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays prior to his return to Cleveland.

News of Smith's signing comes a day after fellow reliever Bryan Shaw reportedly agreed to a 3-year deal with the Colorado Rockies. On Wednesday, the Indians traded reliever Shawn Armstrong to the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations.
