Report: Cleveland Cavaliers to interview J.B. Bickerstaff, Alex Jensen for head coaching job

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Cleveland Cavaliers will interview a J.B. Bickerstaff and Alex Jensen for their current head coaching vacancy.

It's been nearly three weeks since the Cleveland Cavaliers and Larry Drew mutually parted ways, but the team's search to find its new head coach appears to be gaining some steam.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Cavs will formally interview former Memphis Grizzlies head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, as well as Utah Jazz assistant coach Alex Jensen for their current head coaching vacancy. Per multiple reports, Cleveland's interview with Bickerstaff was expected to take place on Tuesday, with Jensen's coming later this week.

The son of former NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff -- who is currently an advisor with the Cavs and has been a part of the organization since 2013 -- J.B. Bickerstaff possesses head coaching experience, including a 71-game interim stint with the Houston Rockets (2015-16) and the past two seasons, which he spent with the Grizzlies. In that span, the now-40-year-old has amassed an 85-131 record, although his time in Memphis came during a rebuilding phase.

Like Bickerstaff, the 42-year-old Jensen possesses ties to the Cavs organization, serving as the head coach of the G-League affiliate Canton Charge from 2011-13. In the time since, Jensen has earned a reputation for his player development while working with the Jazz, in addition to serving as an assistant with Germany's national team since 2015.

Although neither Bickerstaff nor Jensen are the first candidates to interview with the Cavs, the rate at with which the team appears to be meeting with coaches could signal an advancement in its search. In addition to Bickerstaff and Jensen, Cleveland has been linked to Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley, Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard and Portland Trail Blazers assistants Nate Tibbetts and David Vanterpool.

According to Stein, Mosley is expected to advance to the next round of the team's search.
