CLEVELAND — While the jerseys for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game leaked on social media earlier this week, we now not only have confirmation that the leak was accurate, but also a look at what will be worn in the other events during All-Star Weekend in Cleveland.
On Friday, Nike released its first official images of the uniforms that will be worn in the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, Rising Stars and the Celebrity Game. Included in the release was the first high-resolution display of the All-Star Game uniforms, which include a red jersey with white trim and a silver jersey with light blue trim.
Nike's release states that the design of the Jordan Brand uniforms is intended to pay homage to Cleveland, as well as the NBA's 75th anniversary.
"The uniform’s typography is inspired by the architecture of the city’s bridges and gives homage to classic All-Star uniforms of the late ’80s and early ’90s," the release reads. "The colors are drawn from the silver, prismatic shine of a diamond against the blue and red of the NBA logo in celebration of the league’s 75th anniversary season. The blue also speaks to the prominence of Lake Erie, and the red is a variation on the fiery strength and resilience of Cleveland."
On Friday, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant were announced as the captains for this year's game. Team LeBron is expected to wear the red uniforms, with Team Durant wearing the silver uniforms.
Meanwhile, the uniforms for Friday night's Celebrity Game feature a more bold style and were created by designers -- some as young as 13 -- from Converse’s Boston- and Los Angeles–based Social and Community Impact partners. The Converse uniforms "are inspired by stylistic cultural differences between the East and the West," with the East uniforms paying tribute to "the resilience of the cities in the region and local street art," and the West uniforms featuring "’90s pop culture, including popular movies, television and music during that time."
Earlier this week, the NBA announced a new format for its Rising Stars event, which will consist of a four-team, three-game tournament featuring first and second-year players, as well as players from the G League Ignite. As a result, this year's event has four different uniforms, which "feature unique colors inspired by the refraction of a diamond now showcased in four colorways to reflect the event’s updated four-team format."
The 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Feb. 18-20, with the Celebrity Game and Rising Stars taking place on Friday, Feb. 18 and the All-Star Game being on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
