Channel Banks, Daniel Utomi lead Akron over Chicago State 87-46

Akron shot 53 percent from the field and scored 20 points off 20 Chicago State turnovers.

AKRON (AP) - Channel Banks and Daniel Utomi scored 17 points apiece and Akron rolled to an 87-46 victory over Chicago State on Friday night.

Banks was 6 of 8 from the floor and made three 3-pointers. Utomi was 6-of-13 shooting and hit four 3-pointers. Akron (3-0) shot 53 percent from the field (28 of 53) and scored 20 points off 20 Chicago State turnovers.

Rob Shaw scored 12 points and Christian Jacob added 11 to lead Chicago State (0-4).

The Zips opened the game on a 25-6 run and built a 39-13 halftime lead. Banks' 3-pointer with 13:32 to play stretched Akron's lead to 40 points, 63-23.

The game was part of the Cayman Islands Classic tournament. Akron faces Clemson in a tournament game at the Grand Cayman Islands on Monday. Chicago State travels to Johnson City, Tennessee for the classic's Mainland Tournament.
