Cleveland State Athletic Director Mike Thomas to resign effective December 31

Thomas will pursue opportunities in consulting

Cleveland State University Athletic Director Mike Thomas has tendered his resignation to the university effective at the end of the calendar year.

Thomas departs to pursue consulting opportunities.

"We appreciate the work that Mike has done during his time at CSU to support our student-athletes, and wish him well in all of his future endeavors," Cleveland State President Harlan Sands said in a statement.

Thomas began as Cleveland State's AD in March, 2017. During his tenure, the Vikings won Horizon League titles in women's volleyball, men's and women's golf, and men's tennis, and made a run to the League championship game in men's basketball last winter.

Previously, Thomas served as athletic director at Illinois, Cincinnati, and Akron. He hired Keith Dambrot as the Zips' head basketball coach.

"Athletics remains an important part of CSU's efforts to create a full and enriching campus experience for our students. This is why we will appoint an interim Athletics Director prior to the holiday break and immediately begin the search for a new Director of Athletics who can build on our Viking traditions for the future," Sands added in his statement.
