UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Mentor native Nicole Heffington scored 18 points and Lakewood's Olivia Nagy added 16 with 13 rebounds as John Carroll won a thrilling 68-65 showdown with Baldwin Wallace Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets entered the game atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, but trailed by eight at halftime. After BW fought back to take the lead, the Blue Streaks went on a 12-3 run to break the game open and withstood a rally in the final seconds to get the victory.

Free throws by Olmsted Falls grad Sarah Balfour gave JCU (12-2, 7-1 OAC) the lead for good with 4:47 to play. Balfour finished with 17 points and made all six of her attempts from the charity stripe.

Megan Hensel and Elyria Catholic alum Megan Scheibelhut each led the Jackets (10-3, 7-1) with only 11 points, but the team overcame a slow start to shoot 54% from the field in the second half. Heffington missed two free throws to give BW a chance before Scheibelhut's 3-points failed to fall with three seconds left.

Now tied for second in the OAC, John Carroll will host Muskingum Saturday afternoon, while Baldwin Wallace will play Wilmington back in Berea around the same time.
