Malone women's basketball beats struggling Lake Erie 70-55

The Pioneers got back in the win column after a tough three-game road trip, while the Storm lost their 15th straight.

CANTON, Ohio — Macedonia native Holly Groff scored 20 points and Emma Kallas hauled in seven rebounds as Malone pulled away for a 70-55 win over Lake Erie Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers (10-7, 6-5 G-MAC) led by just six early in the third quarter, but soon pulled away with a 26-12 run. The team made at least 53% of its shots in each quarter expect the second, with four players scoring in double digits.

Lake Erie (1-17, 0-12) saw its rough season continue in its 15th straight loss. Breanna Bauer led the Storm with 18 points while Westlake's Abby Matalavage added 17.

Malone had lost six of eight coming in, including two of three on its most recent road trip. They'll host Ursuline Wednesday afternoon in Canton, while Lake Erie will travel to play Walsh at the same time.
