CLEVELAND — The Cleveland State women's basketball team advanced to the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals Thursday night with a convincing 69-43 win over UIC.
The sixth-seeded Vikings (10-8) blew open an eight-point game with a 28-10 fourth quarter. Senior Mariah White led the way with 21 points, and freshman Nadia Dumas added eight rebounds.
Keona Schenck scored 15, but it wasn't enough for the 11th-seeded Flames (3-16). Free-throw shooting proved to be a crucial difference: While UIC was just 5-for-9 from the line, CSU was 24-for-31.
Cleveland State is off until Tuesday, when it will face No. 3 seed Green Bay in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. on the Phoenix's home court.
