Cleveland State men's basketball blows 16-point lead, falls to Oakland 92-89 in OT

The Vikings led by 11 with three minutes left, but collapsed down the stretch in their second straight loss to a team below .500.

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Jalen Moore scored 25 points and Oakland had two other players over 20 points in a 92-89 overtime victory over Cleveland State on Saturday.

The Vikings led by as many as 16 and by 11 with three minutes to go in regulation, but collapsed down the stretch in their second straight loss to a team below .500. Harvey Keaton's free throws sent the game to overtime, and the Golden Grizzlies were a perfect 8 of 8 from the charity stripe in OT.

Moore had seven assists and five steals for Oakland (10-15, 8-6 Horizon League). Trey Townsend scored 23 points and added 17 rebounds and four blocks. Blake Lampman recorded 22 points, with five 3-pointers.

With CSU up 76-65 and time winding down, the Grizzlies began their comeback attempt with two Townsend free throws, and he later cut the deficit to three with a layup. The Vikes turned the ball over three times before Tristan Enaruna nailed a 3, and they eventually extended the lead to five with only 18 seconds left.

Enaruna finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals for Cleveland State (14-11, 9-5), but after a Lampman 3-pointer to make it 82-80, he coughed the ball up as the Vikings were trying to run out the clock. Keaton tied, and Enaruna's jumper as time expired failed to land, sending things to an extra period where CSU eventually fell short.

The Vikes also got 17 points and two steals from Jayson Woodrich, while Deshon Parker had 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Drew Lowder had a chance to tie it up at the end of overtime, but his 3 was off the mark.

Now losers of consecutive matchups for the first time since December, Cleveland State's conference title hopes are also in trouble, as they find themselves trailing first-place Youngstown State by two games with six left to play in the regular season. The Vikings will look to get back on track Friday night when they host Robert Morris.
