Game preview:

This year's Hall of Fame Game features two teams looking to make big jumps in 2022.

While 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence won't play in Thursday night's game, Jacksonville is hopeful that the Clemson product will begin his ascent toward becoming the transformational prospect he appeared to be coming out of college. Instead, Lawrence's rookie season was marred by Urban Meyer's underwhelming attempt at coaching in the pros, as the Jaguars stumbled to the worst record in the NFL at 3-14.

Similarly, the Raiders faced no shortage of distractions last season either, between former first-round pick Henry Ruggs III's arrest for a fatal drunk driving accident and Jon Gruden's resignation following the release of racially insensitive emails. Still, Las Vegas managed to qualify for the playoffs at 10-7 before losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Wild Card Round.

This past season, the Raiders hired former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their new head coach. They also pulled off a blockbuster trade to acquire wide receiver Davante Adams, who was a college teammate of Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr.
